Offline maps for group trips

Where is everyone?

Everyone driving to one place, on one map, and how far each has to go. Hold one button to talk to them all.

muretabi on Product Hunt

Everyone’s route to the same place. Nobody has to say where they are.

If you're wondering

Why not just share location in the group chat?

You can. Someone still ends up asking “where are you?”, because nobody can open the chat and check everyone’s pin while driving.

A shared pin in the chat

  • Shows where each person is
  • No shared destination, so you can't tell who is close and who is an hour back
  • You type or record a voice note while driving
  • Lose signal and the map goes with it

muretabi

  • Everyone on one map, going to the same place
  • Sorted by who is closest, so nobody has to ask
  • One button talks to everyone, hands on the wheel
  • Your route is on your phone before you leave, so a dead zone can't take it

One person sets it up. Everyone else just drives.

One person picks the place, once, for everyone. Search for it or tap the map.

Who can see where you are

Send a link, they watch in a browser

Send one link to whoever stayed home. Nothing to install and no account. They see the group moving on the map, with names, so they can tell who is who. Their link stops working when the trip ends.

Your location, only during the trip

Only the people on the trip can see it, and only while you are on it. Leave the trip and it stops. The trail is deleted after 30 days.

Thirty seconds of a trip

Five riders, one place, the whole way there.

Questions people ask

How many vehicles can be on one trip?
Five vehicles, with one phone in each, counting whoever started the trip. Cars, bikes or a mix, all on one live map. A bigger group can start a second trip with its own code.
Do we all need the same phone?
No. Android and iPhone work together on one trip. Everyone signs in once with Google or Apple, then joins with the trip code.
Does it navigate, or do I need another maps app?
It navigates, with offline maps built in: the map along your route is saved to your phone, so you get turn-by-turn directions inside muretabi without switching apps. It routes on car roads for now, so a bike gets the route a car would take.
How far apart can we be and still talk?
Any distance. The talk button works over mobile data, not radio, so there is no range limit. It needs signal on both ends: in a dead zone it pauses and comes back with the signal.
We are all meeting before we set off. Does everyone need signal there?
Yes, at that moment. Signing in, starting the trip and joining with the code all need a connection, and the map along your route downloads to your phone right after you join. Do it at home or at the last stop with signal. After that your map and your route keep working with no signal at all; everyone else’s position and the talk button pause until it comes back.
Can we add a stop on the way?
Stops along the route are coming soon. For now, whoever started the trip can change the destination for everyone: point it at the fuel stop or the breakfast place, then back to where you are all going. Everyone sees the new destination on their screen.
Will it drain my battery?
It keeps GPS on for the whole trip, the way any navigation app does. On a long drive, keep the phone on a charger.
